Ever wondered about the differences between Live Resin, Live Rosin and Distillate cannabis concentrates? Learn all about these extracts.

Live Resin, Rosin, and Distillate

Vaping THC helps consumers enjoy a discreet high while indulging in the pleasure of smoking. There are a variety of different types of concentrates that can be vaped or dabbed. Some can even be mixed in with flower to give you the best of both worlds. Although some people may be intimidated about the different ways of consuming, one can take comfort in the fact that it is just another way to enjoy the true essence of the marijuana plant.

What is Live Resin?

Live Resin is produced by flash freezing freshly harvested cannabis plants. Once the plant material is flash frozen, it undergoes a solvent-based extraction process that utilizes butane or propane. After this process, the solution is purified of any extra solvents to bring forth a robust and flavorful concentrate.

Live Resin Carts

Live Resin Carts by Verano

A live resin cart is a vape cartridge that is pre-filled with live resin oil. It must be used with a compatible battery, usually your standard 510 thread. The benefits of vaping live resin carts are being able to enjoy the true essence of a strain that might not always be expressed in flower. One can enjoy the nuanced terpene profile of a strain without it burning off too quickly through combustion.

Smoking live resin carts at a temperature of 2.5-3.3 V is ideal, there might be an inclination to vape at a higher temperature to get high faster, but this can burn off the terpenes, thus diminishing the impact of your high.

Cresco Live Resin carts come in a variety strain either sativa, hybrid, or indica. They are 510 thread compatible so they can work with any standard battery you find at any of our locations. They come in both 0.5g and 1g sizes.

Ozone Live Resin carts use butane as a solvent to bring out the terpenes and cannabinoids from the plant. A vacuum oven helps purge any leftover solvent, resulting in a sticky, resinous substance. This oil preserves most of the cannabis and terpene profile. Ozone’s live resin vape cartridges are available in 0.5g and 1g options, as well as a 0.5g disposable vape.

Live Resin Gummies

Live Resin Gummies offer the full spectrum characteristics of the high. Regular distillate gummies are made of isolate THC which produces a direct high, but not as potent. Live resin gummies maintain the terpene profile of the strain used and deliver a more intense and impactful experience.

The Lost Farm Gummies come in a variety of flavors with different strains and effects, these vegan treats are made with pectin offering a softer consistency. The 10mg 10 pack gummies encourage consumers to experiment with their cannabis experience. Lost Farm creates that by offering enthusiasts a variety of strains and flavors to attain the high they want.

Strawberry Lemonade and Raspberry are their sativa flavors. Strawberry Lemonade is infused with Lemon Bean, one of Cresco’s award-winning strains. It won second place in the 2021 Illinois High Times Cannabis Cup. It presents a stimulating and focused high allowing you to dive into whatever creative project you would like to tackle. The Raspberry flavor is infused with the Durban Poison, a strain that is truer sativa, it allows you to get right to cleaning or power through a tedious workout.

The Citrus Spritz is infused with the classic, mentally stimulating hybrid, Pineapple Express. This option allows consumers a perfect middle ground of either going out, working on a project, or just getting lost in a show or movie.

The indica options include Pineapple and Chili Mango. Pineapple is infused with the heavy indica strain Ice Cream Cake. It makes this gummy fitting for your sleep time ritual or a post workout soreness remedy. The Chili Mango flavor is infused with Cresco’s indica dominant hybrid, Lime Sorbet. This flavor is perfect for lovers of tajin, who enjoy a snappy, citrus bite. Lime Sorbet is a good strain to unwind with, and not as heavy as Ice Cream Cake.

What is Distillate?

Distillate Vape Pens

Distillate is cannabis extract oil that is purified and stripped of all cannabinoids but one which may usually be THC, CBD, or both.

Distillate can be used to infuse edibles, tinctures, topicals, pre-rolls, or moon rocks.

Distilling THC can be an involved process:

First, the THC must be extracted from the plant material. The THC can be extracted by using Carbon Dioxide Extraction, Ethanol extraction, or hydrocarbon extraction. Next, there is the winterization process where the raw extract is combined with ethanol and frozen. This helps separate the fatty material from the cannabinoids.

Next the solution will be filtered to expel any solid debris, once this occurs, the solution will endure heat and rotation to evaporate the ethanol to achieve a purified cannabis oil. After we get this oil, we must convert the THCA in the oil to THC by decarboxylating the oil. Once the oil is decarboxylated, we get the psychoactive compound THC that gets us the high we love so much!

The decarboxylated cannabis oil will pass through a distillation apparatus, where heat and a vacuum aerate and shrink the cannabinoids. This allows us to separate the cannabinoids based on their boiling point and gets isolated as the distillate.

Verano (The) Essence and Savvy Carts

Verano’s new rebrand of (The) Essence Carts utilize (the) Essence flower. The flower is extracted using ethanol into distilled cannabis oil, then botanically derived terpenes are added. This oil is loaded into 0.3g disposable pens, 0.5g cartridges, and 1g cartridges. (The) Essence oil also comes in different forms of extracts such as shatter, crumble, and wax.

The Savvy line of Verano aims to provide an option for consumers who “want more for less”. This street-smart option offers a 1g cartridge and 0.3g option. The Savvy carts range from Sativa to Indica.

What is Live Rosin?

Live Rosin Vape Carts

Live Rosin is concentrate made from heat and pressure. Before the material can be pressed ice wax needs to be created out of freshly frozen plants which are dried before pressing. Ice wax cannabis concentrates are concentrates extracted without solvents. Water and ice are used to agitate the trichomes off the plant. The trichomes are collected with and cured or dried.

Next, Full melt ice wax is placed into a filter bag, the bag has pressure and heat applied to it at a low temperature to extract the most potent, pure, and tasty concentrate. What gives Live Rosin its high quality is its 75-85% cannabinoid content, and its 4-15% terpene content making the effects of the strain extremely prominent.

How to Smoke Live Rosin

Live Rosin can be dabbed or vaped. It also can be infused into gummies. Whether you smoke live rosin in a traditional dab rig, mix it in with a joint, your buzz will surely be elevated and tasty. The cannabinoid and terpene expression will be especially prominent with this mixed into your consumption rotation.

Live Rosin Badder

One popular form of live rosin is Badder which is a soft wax texture that is formed in the same way as live resin, but there is another step which includes curing and drying. It utilizes butane or carbon dioxide to extract oils from the frozen plant material. This additional step in the process produces a higher terpene profile than regular live resin. A higher terpene content means a stronger effect. We love the terps!

The On the Rocks Badder is made by isolating trichomes with an ice-water bath. It is pressed into oil and whipped into a smooth, even extract with cannabinoids and terpenes sprinkled throughout the mixture.

It can be dabbed, vaporized, or an extra infusion into your bowl, joint, or edible! On the Rocks small-batch extracts will deliver a terpene and flavor profile with strong effects and flexible utility.

Different Types of Concentrates:

Different Types of Concentrates

Live Sugar is a type of concentrate that is flash-frozen at harvest which helps preserve the strain’s terpenes for true-to-strain high. It is a product that is curated for cannabis connoisseurs who enjoy an elevated experience.

Crumble is a malleable type of concentration because it can quite literally “crumble” into whatever way you would like to consume it because of its dry consistency. It is one of the most versatile types of concentrates because of its use in flower and dabbing.

THCA Sand

THCa is the non-psychoactive older sibling of THC. When THC is exposed to heat it converts into THC. THCa sand can be combined with flower or added in with any concentrate to be used in your favorite E-rig.

High Supply THCA Sand and Super Shake

High Supply’s Sand is a broad spectrum, butane-extracted sand that is made with fresh frozen flower. It can test from 85-95% THCA and THC combined, making it the perfect addition to the rotation of the more experienced user.

Live Rosin, Resin and Distillate FAQs:

How do I consume concentrate?

Concentrates can be consumed with a dab rig, electronic rig, or a dab pen. They use what is called an atomizer to burn the oil. Along with a rig, you will need a butane torch to heat up the banger, or where you drop the concentrate to smoke it. A scraper is good to have handy to help scoop your concentrate.

What temperature is best suited for dabbing?

In short, it depends on your preference. Low-temp dabbing offers a more flavorful experience, with the onset being more gradual, yet euphoric. High-temp dabbing effects are more immediate and potent. The standard temperature is 545-570 degrees, with the lowest dab temperature ranging between 400-500 degrees, and the hottest dab temperatures range from 570-600 degrees. If Terpenes are an important part of the smoking experience to you, read on. Dabbing is more favorable amongst the more experienced user because concentrates typically sustain the plant’s original terpenes from the extraction process, and the effects will be greater when dabbed. Certain Terpenes have a range of temperatures at which they can sustain their flavors, aromas, and effects. Overall, if a concentrate with a specific terpene is burnt too hot, it will taste burnt, not hot enough, and you won’t feel the full effects of the concentrate.

Which is the most versatile concentrate?

The most versatile concentrate would be crumble; with crumble you can roll into a joint, blunt, or even mix it into a bowl pack.

What type of battery is best for live resin carts?

A standard 510 thread battery is perfect for live resin and live rosin carts.
